Many times we have heard it said “It’s not what you know, but WHO you know” and as I was thinking about eternity I realized it is true about heaven as well!

You can memorize and be able to quote the Bible from front to back and maybe even back to front. You can be a Bible scholar and teach theology classes in college, or devote your life’s work to translating the Bible. But all that knowledge will NOT get you into heaven! You see just like in our society it’s not WHAT you know a lot of times that opens doors for us, it’s WHO you know.

Please don’t get me wrong, we need to read the Bible to get to know the Character of God, and that is still one of the primary ways He speaks to us is through His Word. But we need to read it out of a relationship standpoint to get to know Him better and not out of a knowledge standpoint to just know about Him! Many people have heard about Jesus, and know some facts but that is NOT the same as knowing Him and getting into heaven.

Mat 7:21-23 AMP
Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.  22  Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name?  23  And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands].

It’s not WHAT you know about Jesus, the Bible, or even heaven that will get you there. It is ONLY WHO you know that will get you there. The Bible leads us to knowing Jesus, what God the Father has said and done, but there will be only one question for that test when you stand at the gate to check in. Just one! Did My Son know you? Many will claim to say they knew Jesus, but will Jesus say “I know you?

So if you are depending on your “good works“, or “living right“, “Bible knowledge”, or “church going” to get you into heaven you won’t make it. Heaven’s acceptance is about Relationship with Jesus, not head knowledge. In fact after reading Mat 7 you may not even be the one answering the question, it might be Jesus that answers the question about you!

So if you don’t know Jesus today, or are not sure if you know Jesus today. It’s never to late to start, as long as you are still breathing you have time and He is waiting for you. Simply cry out and say “Jesus come into my life, I open my heart to You. I believe in You and I trust You even though I don’t understand much. I want You and I surrender my life to You today, right now. I confess with my mouth that You are now my Lord and believe in my heart that you died for my sins once and for all. Forgive me of my sins and selfish ways, I want to know You!”

Please understand that knowing Jesus is a process, it doesn’t happen overnight. It happens over a lifetime of constantly reading the Bible and hearing what He says, of Worshiping Him because He is your God and not because you want something. Of just getting to know Him like you would build a relationship with a new friend. Talk to Him, ask Him questions, tell Him “I Love You Jesus”. He hears your every cry, your every prayer… though He may not answer your every wish. He hears you.
